‘Children of Eden’ is BHS spring musical selection

April 16, 2012

Bellmont High School has announced that its 2012 spring musical production is “Children of Eden,” written by Stephen Schwartz and John Caird.
The curtain opens for two performances in the Erekson Theatre on Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m.; and on Sunday, May 6, at 4 p.m.  Reserved-seat tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Reserved seats are in the lower sections of the theatre. General admission tickets are $6. General admission seats are in the two upper mezzanine areas.
According to a news release, "Children of Eden" is freely-based on the story of Genesis and is a frank, heartfelt and often humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children.
In two acts the musical tells the stories of Adam and Eve, and Noah and the flood. Using a wide variety of musical styles, the show addresses the conflicts and patterns that are passed from parent to child. The musical is a compelling story of love, rage, guilt, and their consequences, as well as the need to begin again. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet but inspiring message: that "the hardest part of love... is letting go."
The show is appropriate for the entire family, said a school official.
"Children of Eden" is based on a concept by Charles Lisanby with orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin and Martin Erskine; it is being presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, Inc.
Individuals and businesses who would like to support Bellmont Theatre Productions or help with some needed upgrades to the Erekson Theatre can purchase an ad or become a theatre patron. For information on tickets, ads or becoming a theatre patron, call Jeannie Smith at (260) 724-7121, ext 4.
