Bellmont High School senior Brian Hakes has been named to the all-city hockey team by the Fort Wayne Area High School Hockey Association. Hakes, who plays for Bishop Dwenger, was one of two players selected to the first-team defense in voting by the league's coaches. He also was chosen an all-city defenseman last year when the team represented Fort Wayne North Side.
The 6-3, 205-pound four-year veteran was the second leading scorer among defensemen in the league and ninth among all players with 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 18 games.
Other members of the all-city first team were Dwenger teammate and forward Ryan Theisen, forward Jonathan Van Gessel of Homestead, forward Paul Lee of Homestead, defenseman Adam Limina of Homestead, and goaltender Alex Zion of Snider. Another Dwenger defenseman, Mark Peters, was chosen on the second team.
An honor roll student and all-state football player who also participates in baseball and wrestling at Bellmont, Hakes has captained the Dwenger/North Side team for two seasons.
The Saints finished as state runnerup in Class 2A after being edged by Carmel Blue, 3-2, in last Saturday's championship game at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis.
Hakes also is a member of the Fort Wayne Phantoms 18-under travel hockey team.
