2 arrested after hostage situation in Berne

    A hostage situation and standoff in Berne Tuesday evening resulted in the arrest of two area men.
    According to a news release from Adams County Sheriff, Shane Rekeweg, sheriff's deputies from Adams and Wells counties were conducting an investigation into a hostage situation at Swiss Meadows Apartments, 575 Deborah Lane that began around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
    Gregory Aguilar, 36, refused to open his door to investigators and stated he had a hostage in the building. After several hours, Aguilar surrendered to police at 8:35 p.m. and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment before he was arrested and taken  to the Adams County jail.
    The hostage in the situation, Russell Henry Jr., 28, was released unharmed, but was also transported to the Adams County Detention jail for outstanding warrants not related to this incident.
    This incident remains under investigation by the Adams County Sheriff's Office.
