Bates competing with top horsemen in Midwest

For as long as Brandon Bates can remember, he’s had horses and racing in his life. As one of the top standardbred drivers in the midwest, Bates admits that he is simply living out a childhood dream.
“I am a third-generation horseman,” admits the Monroe resident. “My dad and my granddad both drove horses for as long as I can remember.”
While many consider today’s standardbred racing, or harness racing as some call it, to be something that happens only in Anderson on weekends, the sport actually has a long history here in Adams County, while still remaining relevant in other ways today.
