In late-breaking news Monday night, Bellmont head football coach Eric Davis announced his resignation to the team at the start of practice.
Davis, who came to Decatur last summer, was about to embark on his second year as the Bellmont head coach. Instead, citing personal and family reasons, the coach will be taking a new job closer to his home in Logansport.
In an interview with Bellmont AD Dale Manis, Manis stated that Davis’s departure would be in the best interest of Davis’s family and that the athletics staff and school administration had been working on the best solution for the athletes with football season right around the corner.
The vacancy at head coach will be filled by assistant coach Nick Hall, who worked under Davis on both the football field and in the classroom in the ACCES program.
Davis was 0-10 in his first year as Bellmont head coach and 27-85 overall.
Hall was a leader on the 2008 state title team.
