County wrestlers earned five berths to Indianapolis Saturday and the Bellmont Braves continued their remarkable season with a runner-up finish, losing out on their fifth consecutive trophy by a handful of points. Along with three state-streeters for the Braves, Alex Currie of AC and A.J. Dull of South Adams both qualified for the first time.
Trailing by just six team points heading into the finals, Ike Ruble tied the team score at 61 for less than five minutes with his fall victory over Hayden Brady of Garrett. Ruble built a large lead when he put a turk in on Brady and scored nearfall in the second period before getting the fall.
With just one loss on the year, Ruble looks primed for a deep run into next weekend’s state tournament.
“Many times in life adversity can mold us much more than success,” said Bellmont assistant Tim Myers when the day was finished.
