Grace Hunter, a 2019 graduate of Bellmont High School, recently completed her first season playing D-I college basketball at Northern Illinois University and recently spoke to the DDD about her experience and what effect the pandemic has had on her schooling and training.
While the always humble Hunter will tell the casual observer that she did not have a good start to her career, this sportswriter saw enough of her games streamed online to know that she is only talking herself down. Before a serious facial injury that required oral surgery, Hunter started 13 games for the Huskies. She was the team’s most accurate three-point shooter (35.2%) and was always on the court at the end of games when the team needed a defensive stop.
“I didn’t think I had a good season,” says Hunter. “But I know there is a lot of room for growth and I am very capable of that, so I am not worried.”
