IHSAA 'emerging sports' amendment fails; hurdles for girls wrestling remain

Meeting virtually because of the ongoing pandemic, the IHSAA board of directors made several key decisions at Monday evening’s meeting.
The biggest decision before the board was an amendment to the process of sanctioning new sports. Previously, the threshold for a new sport in the IHSAA program was 50%. With 412 current members, the popular sports of boys volleyball and girls wrestling are on the outside looking in right now.
The new amendment, put forward by board member Victor Bush, would have created a path for a sport to be put in an “emerging sports” classification.
