A Monroe woman was killed Tuesday morning when the horse-drawn buggy she was driving was rear ended by a vehicle, according to Adams County Sheriff Dan Mawhorr.
At approximately 7:43 a.m., Ida J. Schwartz, 54, was westbound on U.S. 124, just west of C.R. 200E, when she slowed to enter a private driveway. A min-van driven by Zachary R Knebel, 34, Willshire, Ohio, failed to stop in time and hit the buggy from behind, according to the report.
Schwartz and two juvenile passengers were ejected from the buggy and Schwartz was pronounced dead at the scene. The two juveniles were transported by EMS to Adams Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not released.
Knebel was wearing a seat belt and declined medical treatment.
    The crash remains under investigation.
Responding to the crash was the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Fire Department and Adams County Emergency Medical Services.
