Rickord upsets Meyer in Decatur mayoral race

Staff Writer

Decatur will have a new mayor come Jan. 1, 2020, as Democrat Daniel Rickord upset incumbent Ken Meyer for the city’s top spot.
“I am so excited about working with the city council and employees and working for the residents and business owners of Decatur,” Rickord said once the results were in. “It has been a crazy month, but the real work begins soon.”
It was the race that almost didn’t happen, after the local GOP party filed a challenge to Rickord’s candidacy, drawing the ire of many area residents on both sides of the political isle.
