Sweet Chariots rolls into town Saturday

    St. Mark's United Methodist Church will host its annual Sweet Chariots Car Show starting at 8 a.m. July 7.
    There will be 50 awards presented, including 10 specialty awards: Cool Chariot, Pastor’s Choice, Youth Choice, Best Bike, Best Rat Rod, Long Distance Award, Survivor Award (oldest and most preserved), Best Import, Club Participation Award and Most Chrome plus 40 Best of Show Awards, door prizes and dash plaques.
    Registration is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and the cost is $10. The show will be from 12-3 p.m. This is an open show — no age limit cars or people. There were more than 100 entries in 2017 — classic cars, street rods, trucks and motorcycles.
    Other details include:
    •  Music will be provided by a Teeter’s Sound Solutions, and there is plenty of grass and paved parking;
    • Food, with breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m., which will include cinnamon rolls, biscuits and gravy and coffee; lunch starts at 10:30 a.m., including Manley’s hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, coney dogs, sloppy joes, walking tacos and ice cream and pie;
    • The Pine Car Derby begins at 9:30 a.m., with two heats — Boy Scout rules and outlaw (anything that doesn’t scratch the tracks). Bring your own car or kits are also available.
