US 224 project Phase Two begins today

Staff Writer

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Phase Two of the U.S. 224 pavement replacement project in Decatur is scheduled to begin on or after today.
The next phase of work will necessitate the closure of U.S. 224 between 1st Street and North Adams Drive, as well as the closure of the entrance to Stratton Place from U.S. 224.
The closures will allow contractors to elevate the roadway above the 50-year flood level.
The project also includes new pavement, curbs, storm sewers, lighting and traffic control devices.
During the closure, the official state detour will be U.S. 27 to U.S. 33 to S.R. 101. Local detours will also be posted. INDOT contractors will maintain access to all homes and businesses along U.S. 224, up to the site of the closure.
For more information on the local detour, visit the City of Decatur’s #Restore224 webpage at
Work on the U.S. 224 project is ex
